Circus Maximus

​     Legend says it was first laid out by Roman Kings around 6th century CE, but did not fully take shape until the time of Julius Caesar. The largest entertainment building built for the Romans. It hosted many events during it's lifetime. They include chariot races, gladiator fights, public executions and the Roman Games honoring Jupiter. The Roman Games were 15 days of chariot races and military processions. At it's largest, it had a capacity of 250,000 spectators. It even had it's own temple of Ceres. It was built in traditional Roman Form. It was decorated with bronze and terracotta statues. The sand track measured 540 x 80 and had 12 starting gates for chariots. The last official chariot race was held in 549 CE.

The Baths of Caracalla

      The public Baths of Caracalla was begun by emperor Septimius Severus in 206 AD and completed by his son Caracalla in 216 AD. It was designed to hold around 1,600 people and was in use till the 6th century. There were many rooms including a caldarium, hot room, tepidarium, lukewarm room, and a frigidarium, cold room.  â€‹Between the frigidarium and tepidarium was a great hall covered by a dome vault. There were also many open-air baths. There were even exercise rooms and changing rooms.The pillars, ground floor, and exterior walls were all made out of travertine. Marble was used lavishly throughout for statues and rooms.
